In a step reflecting Ar-Rasheed Smart University’s commitment to supporting qualitative projects that link engineering knowledge with sustainable development needs, Faculty of Engineering and Technology witnessed the discussion of a distinguished graduation project today, Monday, April 20, 2026. The project, titled "Smart Irrigation System Using Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT)," was presented by the first batch of Mechatronics Engineering students under the gracious sponsorship of the rector, Prof. Abdullatif Haidar, and in the presence of the Dean of Development and Quality Assurance Center, Prof. Abdulhamid Ashuja'a.

The project aims to develop an intelligent system capable of managing irrigation processes automatically by integrating AI and IoT technologies. It relies on collecting and analyzing multiple data points, including soil moisture, temperature, atmospheric humidity, and water levels, in addition to historical weather data. This enables the system to make precise decisions regarding irrigation timing and quantities, achieving a balance between crop requirements and the rationalization of water and energy consumption.

The student team—comprising Ali Al-Omari, Suhail Al-Hashidi, and Mohammed Abbas—explained that the project was a response to challenges facing traditional irrigation systems, primarily significant water wastage, high energy consumption, and the limited ability to predict climatic changes or detect early faults. They emphasized that the system provides remote monitoring and control, with future scalability through integration with smart applications, satellite data, and predictive maintenance systems.

The examination committee—chaired by Dr. Abdulmalik Momin, with Dr. Adel Rawae (supervisor and member), Dr. Tariq Al-Hababi, and Eng. Mohammed Al-Madwahi—praised the project. They affirmed that the work reflects an advanced level of engineering understanding and the ability to employ modern technologies to address real-world challenges. The committee noted that the project serves as a promising model for initiatives that could contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and enhance resource efficiency through smart and sustainable methods.

In conclusion, the committee emphasized that the project embodies Ar-Rasheed Smart University’s mission to prepare engineering cadres capable of innovation and transforming technical ideas into practical solutions that serve society and meet future requirements.
