About Laboratory Medicine Department
The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Al-Rasheed Smart University has enjoyed a distinguished scientific reputation since its establishment as one of the departments of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. It is a vital medical specialty that focuses on providing public and specialized academic medical programs based on well-studied scientific foundations and the use of modern technologies to benefit whole society in diagnosing diseases, monitoring their development and contributing to their treatment. Therefore, laboratory medicine is considered the cornerstone of the medical field and the foundation upon which it depends to raise the lists of correct medical diagnoses. It is considered as the backbone of healthcare as it supports doctors in making correct diagnostic decisions to contribute to reach effective treatment for diseases and reducing their incidence. The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences plays a vital academic role in training students from all departments and academic programs within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as from the College of Dentistry. This training encompasses basic sciences such as biochemistry and clinical chemistry, and applied sciences such as microbiology, parasitology, pathology, histology, and other related fields. The department is committed to maintaining the highest academic standards by providing an effective academic environment that fosters students' academic excellence. It also ensures the availability of practical training opportunities both during and after their studies, allowing students to hone their professional skills and enhance their employability. The department is headed by Dr. Fairooz Mohammed Atroosh, who manages its administrative and Academic affairs under the supervision and guidance of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ekram Al-Eryani.

Department Mission
Providing distinctive and useful courses in the field of Laboratory Medicine through a professional cadre to produce graduates able to compete in the local and regional markets.
Program Mission
The Department of Laboratory Medicine seeks to produce specialists who are able to diagnose diseases. Also, able to teaching, learning and training with the high quality in laboratory diagnosis according to international standards, and able to provide students with communication skills and scientific research to meet the health needs of society.
Program Overview (Laboratory Medicine)
The Laboratory Medicine program equips students with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for diagnosing diseases through laboratory testing. The program encompasses major medical sciences, including clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, parasitology, immunology, virology, histopathology, molecular biology, and blood banking. Students learn how to collect and analyze samples, use manual and automated laboratory techniques, apply biosafety and quality assurance standards, and interpret laboratory results accurately. The program integrates foundational medical sciences with practical training in modern laboratories, preparing graduates to work effectively within healthcare teams. Students complete required courses, laboratory sessions, research activities, and a six-month clinical internship in accredited hospitals and laboratories. The curriculum follows national academic standards and references international frameworks such as NAACLS and ASCLS. To graduate, students must complete 144 credit hours plus a six-month internship. Graduates then become qualified to work in hospital laboratories, private diagnostic centers, blood banks, research institutions, public health agencies, food and water testing labs, ..etc.
