In a vibrant scene filled with energy and the spirit of youth, and under a sporting atmosphere that reflects the ambitions of universities and their desire for creativity beyond the classroom, the Higher Education Sector of the Ministry of Education started the Third Football Championship among Yemeni universities today, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in partnership with Al-Wahda Club, as part of the Seventh Winter Forum of the club.
The opening ceremony emphasized the growing role of university sports as a platform for cultivating leaders, enhancing team spirit, and building a generation that believes in fair competition and collaborative efforts.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Hatem Al-Dhais, Deputy Minister of Education and Scientific Research, who highlighted the importance of sporting activities in promoting university spirit and refining students' skills. He pointed out the role of sports in creating a positive competitive environment among universities. Also present was Mr. Amin Jumaan, Secretary-General of the Local Council in the Capital Secretariat and President of Al-Wahda Sports Club, who praised the ongoing partnership in organizing an event that brings together public and private universities under one roof.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Rubaie, Dean of Student Affairs, affirmed Ar-Rasheed Smart University’s commitment to participating in all sports activities aimed at enhancing youth potential and instilling a spirit of positive competition among them. He emphasized the importance of student activities in fostering a balanced and integrated personality among students. He thanked the Higher Education Sector, the General Administration of Student Activities at the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, and Al-Wahda Sports Club for organizing the championship, and commended the efforts of the university’s Student Activities Management in preparing the football team for participation.
Following the opening, the first match kicked off between Ar-Rasheed Smart University and the Emirate International University, concluding in a thrilling draw with each team scoring a goal in a match marked by high levels of enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
The championship features 26 public and private universities, amidst a backdrop of intense preparation and ongoing challenges, as they gear up for the group stage competitions in the coming days. This event represents the largest of its kind among Yemeni universities, vividly embodying the vitality and creativity of university youth and their active role in enriching the sports and academic scene, affirming that their energy is a real driving force in the quest for excellence and innovation in society.
