Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences starts an advanced first aid course for first-year students in the general medicine and surgery program.
In a world where crises accelerate and humanity is tested in critical moments; medicine is not just a profession but a mission that begins with the simplest acts of care and the first touch of rescue. With a deep understanding of the role of medical students as bearers of a humanitarian mission before being degree holders, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ar-Rasheed Smart University started an advanced training course in first aid on Saturday, May 24, 2025, for first-year students in the General Medicine and Surgery program, held on campus
This initiative reflects the faculty's approach to investing in practical skills and promoting health awareness among students early in their studies. The course included vital hands-on training sessions led by Dr. Saba Al-Awadi and Dr. Bassam Shammar, focusing on equipping students with essential capabilities for handling emergencies both inside and outside the university campus.
The course aimed to provide participants with skills in rapid patient assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), managing airway obstruction and choking cases, mass casualty first aid, pediatric emergency care, and other critical practical aspects. Students were divided into five training groups to ensure intensive practice and direct interaction with the trainers.
Professor Dr. Ikram Fadel Al-Eryani, Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, emphasized that the course is more than just an academic training, stating: "We train our students in first aid not just as an academic requirement, but as a fundamental human value. Through this, we instill in them a sense of responsibility and rapid response in emergency situations. The doctor of the future is not expected to merely work in a clinic but to be among the first responders when humanitarian duty calls."
This course is part of a series of interactive activities and workshops organized by the faculty to refine students' skills and enhance their practical applications, aligning with Ar-Rasheed Smart University's mission to shape a bright scientific and humanitarian future.
