In an atmosphere reflecting the spirit of innovation and practical application, and under the gracious sponsorship of the University President, Prof. Dr. Abdul Latif Haidar, Mechatronics Engineering students at Ar-Rasheed Smart University presented on Thursday, April 23, 2026, a qualitative graduation project entitled: "Design and Implementation of a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication."
The project aims to develop a cost-effective CNC machine capable of milling and fabricating electronic circuit boards with high precision and efficiency. This innovation serves as a practical alternative to traditional methods, such as chemical etching, thereby enhancing both educational applications and small-scale industrial manufacturing.
The project was successfully completed by students: Mohammed Miftah, Mohammed Naji, and Mohammed Al-Rada’i, under the expert supervision of Eng. Mohammed Al-Medwahi and Eng. Alaa Al-Maqtari. The technical design relied on integrating mechanics, electronics, and programming, utilizing stepper motors to control motion across the (X, Y, Z) axes. The system is operated via a microcontroller that executes G-code commands generated by CAD/CAM software.
Furthermore, a mechanical structure was designed to ensure stability and minimize vibrations, which significantly contributed to improving performance accuracy. Preliminary results demonstrated the machine's ability to execute milling operations with high precision, while identifying technical challenges that are currently being addressed for future enhancements.
The examination committee, consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulmalik Momin and Dr. Adel Rawae, emphasized the importance of the project and its potential for future development into a commercial or high-end laboratory tool.
This achievement reflects Al-Rashid Smart University’s strategic orientation toward supporting applied projects that bridge the gap between knowledge and innovation, qualifying a generation capable of creating effective technological solutions.
