Towards Education that Breathes Quality: A High-Level Interactive Workshop at Ar-Rasheed Smart University Aligns Teaching and Assessment with Learning Outcomes
In a significant step to enhance the quality of the educational process and develop the academic staff’s performance, Development and Quality Assurance Center at Ar-Rasheed Smart University organized an advanced training workshop on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The workshop, titled "Aligning Teaching and Assessment with Learning Outcomes," was led by Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Haidar, the university president, with active participation from deans of faculties, heads of academic departments, and faculty members from various disciplines.
In the opening session, Associate Professor Dr. Abdulhameed AShuja’a, Dean of Development and Quality Assurance Center, emphasized that this workshop is part of a series of developmental programs implemented by the center. Its goal is to enhance academic performance efficiency and improve the quality of education and assessment. He noted that aligning teaching and assessment with learning outcomes is a cornerstone for program accreditation and ensuring effective learning.
For his part, Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Haidar, the rector of the university, expressed his pride in the high level of participants and their serious engagement. He stressed that "Aligning teaching and assessment with learning outcomes is no longer an option, but an urgent necessity to prepare graduates capable of making a difference in their communities and the job market."
He added, "At Ar-Rasheed Smart University, we believe that quality starts inside the classroom and is reflected through meaningful assessments linked to clear educational objectives."
The workshop covered several important practical aspects, including designing teaching plans aligned with learning outcomes, developing effective assessment tools, and measuring learning outcomes at the course and program levels. Practical models and real case studies were also presented.
The workshop featured numerous hands-on exercises, brainstorming activities, group work, interactive presentations, and scholarly discussions. This interactive approach fostered innovation and knowledge-sharing while enhancing participants’ ability to apply theoretical concepts in real-world educational contexts.
Participants expressed their deep appreciation for the content of the workshop and its direct practical impact on improving their academic performance. At the conclusion of the workshop, the rector of the university and the center’s dean distributed participation certificates to all attendees in recognition of their active engagement and constructive interactions.
